The Niger Delta Development Commission has called for the utmost prioritization of the girl child education, describing it as the sustainable key to development in the nation.
At the Celebration of the international women’s day, the commission charged every arm of the government to introduce measures that will give the girl child unlimited access to education.
The NDDC chairman, Chiedu Ebie Esq, stated that the girl child is an important segment of the population that should not be left unattended, he stated that educating the girl child empowers women to exceed in every sector of their lives.
The chairman was represented at the ceremony by his personal assistant, Hon, John Aleh.
In another remark, the women who spoke at the ceremony commended the chairman, Ebie and the NDDC for their continuous support towards the empowerment and education of the girl child.
The guest speaker Mrs Utalor Goziem also spoke at the ceremony on the theme “Girl Child Education,” described women as the heart of the nation, therefore, they should be treated properly and equipped with sound education.
“It is very important for the girl child to be educated. A good education is a foundation for the girl child. An educated woman possesses so many attributes that will make her survive tomorrow’s challenges,” she pleaded with government at all levels to keep supporting the education of the girl child.
“Physical exercise is very important in our lives. We must be physically active, it helps the heart to circulate blood well and it also helps the brain cells. Also, engage in regular check ups on your Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, Breast Cancer, Cholesterol and other diseases as it will help prolong your life.” Blessing Akachu who was also a speaker at the ceremony said this and kept saying that women’s health should be considered.
Earlier in her speech, Abba Charity Foundation Coordinator Mrs. Charity Abba demanded that more women be included in positions of decision-making inside the administration. The Abba Charity Foundation collaborated with the event’s organizers.
Other dignitaries who were present at the event were, the Executive Director, Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Hon. (Engr) Doris Uboh; wife of former chairman, Ika South Local Government Council, Mrs Clara Ibude; wife of former vice-chairman, Ika South Local Government, Mrs Rosemary Ogini, women drawn from Ika Federal Constituency and staff of NDDC.
