A dispute inside the People’s Democratic Party concerning the campaign council’s constitution for Hon. Agboola Ajayi, the governorship candidate, is intensifying ahead of the governorship election in Ondo state on November 16.

The party’s state organization quickly rejected the campaign council that the gubernatorial candidate had declared.

The selection of Dr. Eddy Olafeso as the Campaign Council Chairman was revealed in a statement released by Sam Ogunmusi, the governorship candidate’s spokesperson.

In a statement released in Akure, Ogunmusi listed additional appointments as Mr. Deji Aseniserare, who has been named Campaign Council Secretary, Barr. John Ola Mafo, Director General (Special Duties), and Clement Faboyede, Director General (DG) Campaign Council.

The statement stated that all appointments are effective immediately, but it also stated that more heads and Campaign Council members will be revealed later.

“Announcement by one Samuel Ogunmusi appointing persons to coordinate the Campaigns of H.E Agboola Ajayi for the November Election is not only embarrassing but a violation of the PDP Constitution (2017 as Amended).

“Articles 46(1) and 40(1)(a)(b) and (c) does not permit of such announcement coming from individuals not known to the party.

“To such an extent, all the supposed announcements are null, void and of no effect.

“Our celebration follows the law and is organized,” Peretei stated.

“At the appropriate time, appointments for the Local Campaign Council will be made public,” Peretei continued. The party, however, has also refuted any news that Alhaji Fatai Adams, the outgoing chairman, has been replaced.

According to a party spokesman, the “PDP Constitution 2017 as Amended has clear provisions for replacing officers who are removed or die.” Our Constitution’s Article 47(6) makes this quite plain.

“Therefore, the purported congratulatory message, which has no author is fake, baseless, unconstitutional and crafted to create problems where there are none.

“For all intent and purposes, the fake Congratulatory Message is mutinous and a calculated attempt to undermine efforts at rallying support for the PDP Governorship Candidate, H.E Agboola Ajayi at the November election.

Peretei stated, “Those who are interested in taking on duties for party positions are urged to wait accordingly, as the current State Executive Committee of the party’s term ends on August 3, 2024.
