Following two rejections, Chelsea gives up interest in Omorodion

After two proposals from Chelsea were rejected by Atletico Madrid, they  have decided to withdraw from the competition to sign 20-year-old attacker Samu Omorodion.

The Nigerian-born Spain Under-21 international has made his way back to the Wanda Metropolitano following a fruitful loan stint with Alaves in 2023–2024, during which he participated in 34 La Liga games and recorded eight goals and one assist.

Two-time UCL champion Chelsea noticed Omorodion’s form and, ever since Todd Boehly came over, they have not hesitated to pay exorbitant transfer fees for exciting prospects.

According to reports last month, Atletico quickly rejected the Blues’ initial offer, which was estimated to have been approximately €30 million (£25.3 million), with the potential for add-ons to reach €40 million (£33.7 million).

After being turned down once, the West London behemoths didn’t let up and reportedly came back with a better offer of £42 million, but this time, their attempts were knocked down once more.

Omorodion has four more seasons left on his contract in the Spanish capital, and Atletico was reportedly holding out for a price of about £70 million to sell the striker, who hasn’t yet made his Diego Simeone club debut.

Because Atletico continually rejected Chelsea’s reasonable bids, the Spanish publication, Marca believes that Chelsea has now given up on signing the talented 2004 native.

Omorodion was reportedly identified by the Stamford Bridge board as a future star marksman, but Atletico Madrid thinks he can excel in Spain in the upcoming campaigns.

Simeone reportedly believes that the 20-year-old has the potential to surpass Memphis Depay, and Atletico are anxious to hang onto Omorodion given the uncertainty surrounding Alvaro Morata’s future.

In addition, it’s believed that the attacker is eager to remain in the area and establish a reputation for himself in the red and white shirt, which will force Chelsea to go elsewhere for fresh attacking potential.
