The primary and secondary schools in Osun State have been ordered by the state government to commence their third term break on Wednesday.

The state’s public and private schools are also impacted by the decision, according to the government.

The government went on to say that the nationwide hunger protest that was set to take place on August 1 was the reason behind its decision to close the schools.

In addition, a Public Service Announcement acquired in Osogbo on Monday and signed by Mr. A. Jimoh, Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Education, cautioned parents and guardians to make sure their children are safe throughout the holiday.

The PSA partly read, “This is to inform the general public, particularly parents, guardians and heads of both public and private schools in the state that due to the planned nationwide protests, all schools are directed to proceed on the third term vacation From Wednesday 31st July, 2023.

“Parents and Guardians are advised to ensure the safety of their wards during the vacation.”

The governor of the state, Ademola Adeleke, met with representatives of student organizations and civil society organizations earlier on Monday to discuss problems related to the planned hunger strike.

As at the time this report was filed, the meeting’s outcome was still anticipated.
