16 people have been confirmed dead in a collision involving numerous vehicles at the Ojoo-Iwo Road axis of the Lagos-Ibadan motorway on Tuesday, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan was informed by the FRSC’s Oyo State Sector Command spokesperson, Mr. Mayowa Odewo, that seventeen other individuals were injured in various degrees in the same accident.

Of the 35 persons engaged in the collision, he indicated that two were uninjured. They were composed of 10 female adults, 6 female children, 5 male children, and 14 male adults.

Odewo said that a Mack truck with the license plate AKM 548 ZY’s faulty brakes was the reason behind the collision, which included four cars.

He claimed that the other cars are a private Honda Accord SUV, KRD 707 ER, a Nissan Micra taxi, BDJ 520 YC, and a Nissan commercial bus, MUB 20 LG.

He claimed that although the dead were turned over to the police, the 17 injured victims had been brought to a local hospital for treatment.

“The accidented vehicles have been taken to Irepodun Police Station, along Agbowo-Ojoo Road, by the police.

“Sadly, no victim was saved by seat belts or other defensive gadgets,” he said.

The spokesperson urged more cautious driving and upkeep of vehicles in order to reduce the number of fatalities from preventable traffic accidents.
