A confirmed attempt to breach the domain of Guarantee Trust Bank Plc’s website has been made. Just a day after the bank renewed its domain name, there was a hacking attempt on Wednesday that resulted in a brief outage to the website, preventing users from accessing online services.

This caused a great deal of anxiety and media stories claiming that the bank’s website had been cloned, thereby endangering the privacy of its customers.

The bank claimed that the event was ineffective and that its website had not been copied in a statement provided to a news correspondent on Thursday and signed by management.

By emphasising that the bank does not retain consumer information on its website, it also allayed worries about customer data being compromised.

The statement titled, “Alleged Web Domain Hack: GTBank Provides Clarity” read, “Our attention has been drawn to reports in the media alleging that hackers have seized the bank’s website, cloned it, and intercepted customer data.

“While there was an isolated incident of an attempt to compromise our website domain, we would like to assure all our customers and stakeholders that the bank’s website has not been cloned and that we do not store customer information on our website, and as such, there has been no instance of compromise of customer data.”

According to the statement, the bank’s information security specialists are presently restoring domain settings nonstop.

Additionally, GTBank stressed its steadfast dedication to protecting consumer information and urged clients to maintain composure and faith in the bank’s strong security protocols.

“Our dedicated team of Information Security Experts is currently working round the clock to restore domain settings, and we can assure our customers that our website will be up shortly.

“We urge all our customers to please disregard the claims in these media reports and assure you of our unwavering commitment to safeguarding customer data. Thank you for your continued support,” the statement added.

Further investigation by journalist revealed that the website is currently operational.
