Some youths in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, have reportedly blocked the road leading to the factional office of Austin Agada, the party’s state chairman.

The youth who appeared to be angered by the current situation in the state All Progressive Congress Party were said to be protesting against the crisis in the state APC, which has led to factions in the party. The youths have vowed to block the street leading to the party office to prevent the factional executives who are in support of Austin Agada.

They lamented that the attitude of the factional executives has continued to undermine the governor’s, Governor Hyacinth Alia’s, power as the leader of the party in the state and chief security officer of the state.

The recent blockage came after the State Executive Committee, SEC, led by Austine Agada, called for a meeting to be held on Thursday without the governor’s invitation.

Heavy security was seen at the front of the protesters, but the protesters remained orderly, and traffic was caused on the road connecting the police headquarters in the state capital.

Today, the government also commenced the repair of the road, which made it unpassable for residents.

In a statement on Thursday, the state governor, through his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, denied knowing about the meeting scheduled to be held on Thursday in the APC office. He explained that the meeting was planned with the knowledge of the APC leader in the state, which he stated was absolutely wrong.

He also explained that as the chief security officer of the state, he was meant to be aware of every legitimate meeting to be held in the state before its commencement.

The governor also stated that Nigeria is not a lawless country where individuals can act on just what they think.
