The Anambra State government has arrested a nurse aged 38-year-old for brutalising her 13-year-old nephew with a heated laundry iron in Anambra State.

Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, the Media Aide to the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The suspect, according to the authorities, is from Ezinifite in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State. She was arrested by the security operatives in collaboration with the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare after the video of the incident took over the social media space.

The ministry explained that the suspect had stated that she had only disciplined the teenager, who is her nephew. She confessed that the instrument used on the boy was a well-heated laundry Iron; she also explained that the victim was locked in the house without any medical treatment.

Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, the Media Aide to the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, disclosed this in a press statement on Wednesday.

The commissioner stated that the suspect would be prosecuted according to the laws after the investigations. She noted that justice would be served for the teenager.

She charged state residents with treating children with caution, especially when they have done something wrong. She further charged the intending offender with staying away from such acts that the state government would not tolerate.

After the arrest, the suspect was handed over to the police, who will conduct a deep investigation into the matter and charge the suspect to court for prosecution.

It was learnt that the victim was brutalised after the nurse alleged that the teenager had stolen from her.
