An Alabama high school football player has reportedly died after he sustained a severe injury during a game.

The football player, who is a student at John T. Morgan Academy in Alabama, USA, sustained a brain injury during a playoff against Southern Academy in Selma, who had visited for the school’s season opener on Friday.

According to the Alabama high school’s management, the student, Caden Tellier, was quickly taken to a hospital in critical condition after he sustained a head injury.

However, the school’s headmaster, Bryan Oliver, confirmed his death on Saturday. He told journalists that the 16-year-old junior was a donor and described him as a shining light who graced the halls of the Selma, Alabama, Private school.

In a statement shared on social media, Oliver further described Caden Tellier as being not just a student at the institution but also a friend and athlete. According to him, it was even more important that Tellier was a follower of Christ.

He said, “There are no words to describe how we feel as a school community and family.”

“Caden will never be forgotten for who he was and what he means to Morgan Academy,” Oliver added.

Caden Tellier’s family has also confirmed the development. In a statement, the family wrote:

“Our boy, Caden Tellier has met Jesus face to face. We appreciate all of your prayers, and we covet them for the hard days ahead.”

The statement also described the deceased Alabama high school kid as one who was full of kindness, generosity and love and expressed hope that by his passing, lives will be saved.

It adds that true to his nature, Tellier is giving of himself one more time, even as lives have been touched by how he lived.

Meanwhile, according to the headmaster, Oliver, Morgan Academy Alabama has suspended all school activities this week, including this Friday’s scheduled football game at Wilcox Academy.
