Hassan Garba, 20, was allegedly killed by a tea vendor identified as Abdulrashidu Ya’u in Jigawa State, after he was accused of stealing bread, milk, noodles and petrol.

According to reports, the suspect—who resides in Sararai village, Jigawar Tsada town, Dutse Local Government Area, carried out  the crime on August 19, 2024, at around five in the morning.

DSP Lawan Adam the Jigawa State Command’s police public relations officer, confirmed the crime.

He stated that a standby patrol unit was dispatched to the location as soon as they received the information, arrested the perpetrator, and took the woman to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital so he could receive emergency medical care.

Unfortunately, he stated that on arrival, “The medical doctor on duty certified the 20-year-man dead. His remains were examined, photographed and later released to his relatives for burial according to Islamic rite.”

During questioning at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Dutse, the suspect acknowledged that the dead had angered him by stealing his goods to the extent that he had reported it to his parents about it, but that nothing had been done.

“Upon apprehending the deceased at this point, he made the decision to tie him with a rope and began striking him with a whip in secret”, the PPRO further revealed.

He made it known that  although nearby neighbours had heard the deceased’s calls for assistance, they were unable to save him until police officers arrived.

Adam assured that the suspect would be dutifully arraigned in court and face the due force of the law after the covert inquiry was over.
