Three men who have been accused of killing a man, Sunday Ayeni, in Uba-Akoko, in the Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state, have been remanded at the correctional centre after being brought before the Chief Magistrate Court in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The death of the man was confirmed after his body was recovered inside the pool of his blood inside his farm. The victim was murdered with his intestine turned out while his body was cut using a cutlass; the cuts indicated that the victim was murdered with several by those responsible for his death.
Before his death, the victim was given compensation after some number of Fulani men with their cows destroyed his farm, which called for compensation.
The police disclosed that after the various incidents that took place relating to the death of the victim, three persons were arrested after accusing fingers were pointed at them. They are named Abdullah Tumbi, 59; Mohamodu Bonkolo, 50; and Shagari Muhammed, 45
The accused persons were brought before the magistrate and were charged with two counts, which include an allegation of conspiracy and murder.
The police prosecutor, Folashade Adeyemi, while speaking in court, explained that the accused person had committed the offence on August 10, 2024, at the Afiri Camp via Oka-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area with members of the gang that are un the run and chased by the police.
The prosecutor disclosed that the murder of the victim was an alleged conspiracy by arrested persons and other individuals who are currently on the run to kill the victim with a cutlass and melt several injuries on him.
According to the charges in court and the charge sheet, it was declared that Abdullah Halilu Tumbi, Mohamodu Adamu Bonkolo, Shagari Muhammed, and others at large, stabbed one Ayeni Sunday, ‘m’, during a clash with him on his farm with a sharp cutlass on his stomach, which eventually led to his death.
The prosecutor noted that the act was against Sections 316, 319, and 324 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant, through their law, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them, but the court failed to take their plea.
The prosecutor asked the court to remand the defendants at any correctional centre in the state until there was a piece of advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions of the state.
In his reaction and ruling, the Chief Magistrate, A. Akinboboye, gave an order that the case file be made a duplicate and sent to the office of the DPP for advice. The magistrate further ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre in Akure until advice was received from the director of public prosecution.
The magistrate ordered the adjournment of the case till December, when the case will be called for mention.
