The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control stated that the faith-based organization Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries, led by Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin, has been using its name to deceive members of the public into purchasing different products.
The warning was contained in a statement made public and signed by the Director General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye on Sunday.
The DG explained that the agency had discovered that the organization did not register all the products being sold by the church but was using the organisation’s name to tell members to buy the product.
The Statement explained that the agency had received several petitions from individuals in the society about the activities of the Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin of Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries, which is located at Km 5 Effurun, Sapele Road, Delta State, about different products that are being sold to the public.
The statement explained that the minister has been selling Miracle Water and Miracle Soap products with the claims that the products heal and perform miracles. Some of the advertisements by the pastor, according to the statement, were showcased on social media by the minister where he claimed that the product healed barrenness, claiming that the women who use it would give birth to twins. NAFDAC disclosed that the Prophet Jeremiah had told the church that the product was registered with the organization.
The agency noted that the items listed in the claims include Miracle & Healing Water, River Jordan Water, Miracle Water from The Pool of Bethsaida, A New Beginning Mount Camel Miracle Water, Water of Life, Miracle Water from The Pool of Bethsaida (1L), A New Beginning Pool of Bethsaida Water, and Father Smelled Perfume.
After the claims, the organization noted that several efforts were made to visit the organization and verify the authenticity of the registration.
Explaining the verification steps taken by the organization, NAFDAC explained that when the petitions were received, the organization contacted the Delta State Coordinator through the agency’s Director of Post Marketing Surveillance to look for the details of any registration with the organization, as claimed by the pastor.
The head office disclosed that the State Coordinator, upon being directed to visit the facility to verify the claims being made, bought Miracle Water (25cl) for 3000 naira from the Ministries and took pictures.
NAFDAC further explained that on another date of visit on Wednesday, August 14th 2024, by the State Coordinator Delta State to the ministry, the two he had met at the premises Head of Service Mr. Ogunleye Fufeyin and the Chief Security Officer all denied them selling or production of such products in the premises claiming that the name and logo belong to ministry but not the product.
The statement noted that the Head of the service at the organization claims that the organization has only one product, a spiritual and artificial pool of Bethsaida water. The officials of the church who asked the agency to wait for further information after 30 minutes returned and refused to cooperate with the staff who visited the premises.
NAFDAC further explained that the officials of the agency, on August 27th 2024, through the Investigation and Enforcement NAFDAC and Federal Task Force on Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods, visited the premises to ascertain the products and conduct other investigations. Still, the church failed to cooperate with the agency. Another letter of invitation was sent to the church to report on August 28 2024, but the organization failed to honour the invitation.
The prophet who failed to honour the invitation of the agency on August 28th, 2024, submitted a legal document to the but sought an extension till September 3rd, 2024, but was given till August 29th to report to the organization but still failed to show up for the investigation rather another document was sent seeking an extension of the date of their appearance.
NAFDAC revealed that in the a document made available to the organization on September 3rd, the church and the prophet had claimed that an agreement was entered into Globod Table Water Km 4, DSC Expressway, Otokutu, Delta State, for the production of the products; it was also disclosed that NAFDAC did not approve the agreement which is illegal according to the rules and the commercial regulations of the organization.
NAFDAC also disclosed that the factory Globod Table Water has been sealed to helping in the production, sell, and advertise unregistered and unwholesome Miracle Water under the pretext of a Fake NAFDAC Registration Number.
The statement expressed the worry that the Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries, KM 5, has refused to present itself for proper investigation for the production and advertisement of products that have been suspected to be false and unregistered.
The organization categorically stated that none of the products had been registered by the organization. The public was also advised to stop purchasing the product.
