Air Peace has denied any involvelmen tin the arrest of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero by Department of State Service on Monday.

The Department of State Service operatives arrested the labour leader on Monday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on his way to the United Kingdom for an official assignment.

In a statement released by the airline spokesperson on Monday, Omotade Makinwa explained that the statement was released in connection with some media reports that Ajearo was arrested in connection with a misunderstanding and a petition submitted to the DSS by the airline.

The spokesperson noted that the media report has created some negativity in the minds of the people.

The statement explained that the airline has expressed concern over some media reports that have stated that the organization has arrested the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in connection to a petition filed by the airline in September 2023.

The statement explained that the comment does not reflect the current situation that exists between the labour leader and the airline.

The publicists complained that it submitted a petition over a year ago but the police refused to act on it.

The statement further stated that before the organization submitted a petition on May 3, 2023, the NLC disrupted Air Peace operations as part of a broader conflict with the Imo State Government. The statement explained that the situation brought confusion between the NLC and the state government. It did not involve the NLC, but Airpeace was dragged into the problem with the aim of pressuring the government.

The statement further explained that the controversy had resulted in huge losses for the business, while the incident disrupted the travel plans of several other individuals in the country.

The spokesperson disclosed that Air Peace had submitted a formal petition against the NLC to the Nigerian Police through the legal team. He further noted that despite repeated efforts to follow up on the petition, the police failed to take prompt action.

The airline went on to disclose that before the labour’s arrest, the organization and the NLC had resolved the misunderstanding, and the petition had been withdrawn from the police, which allowed a good working relationship between the two organizations in the past months.
The labour leader was, however, released on Monday night after threats from the NLC. In a statement, the NLC threatened a showdown if the leader was not released before midnight on Monday; he was, however, released a few minutes before the deadline.
The labour leader has in recent months been in the middle of controversies with the recent invitation of the police and now, the arrest by the DSS
