The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control NCDC has confirmed 67 cases of Mpox in the country from 1,031 suspected cases in 23 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The figures were disclosed on Wednesday during a briefing that was held in Abuja, the nation’s Capital.
According to the figures, Akwa-Ibom state has recorded eight cases. In comparison, Enugu in the southern part of the country has recorded eight cases: Bayelsa Six, Cross River Five, Benue Four, Plateau Four Delta Four, FCT Three, Imo Three, Lagos Three, Rivers Two, Abia Two, Osun Two, Anambra Two, and Ogun Two.
Other states that have recorded cases of the are Gombe, Edo, Niger, Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Kebbi, and Oyo with one case each.
The NCDC noted that laboratories with different capabilities to test the Mpox disease are spread all over the country. The DG explained that the laboratories are being optimized to test and detect the disease to limit the transportation of samples from one state to the other. He also noted that the agency has been working to create awareness to avoid the massive spread of the diseases.
