Pastor allegedly stabs’ wife to death in Anambra, government pledges investigation

The Anambra State Government has ordered an investigation into the alleged murder of one Mrs Ogechukwu Okafor, who was allegedly killed by her husband, Mr Elijah. The Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare issued the order.

According to reports, it was gathered that the murder incident had taken place on August 13, 2024. Still, it was reported to the ministry by the deceased family following some attitudes that the husband exhibited.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, Disclosed the incident on Wednesday in a statement made available to journalists in the state.

The statement disclosed that the suspect, who is a pastor of a church un the state, committed the incident in the Nimo community in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.

The statement noted that an uncle to the dead woman, Mr Samuel Onuorah, from the Abatete community, who approached the ministry along with other family members, had complained that the call was placed to the late niece’s husband that her niece, Ogechukwu, fell from a four-storey building and died.

The suspect named Elijah Emeka Ibeabuchi hails from the Nimo in Njikoka Local Government Area of the Anambra State, he had had married the late woman in the past years.

While speaking at the office of the commissioner, the family of the deceased, who Uncle Mr Onuorah led, explained to the ministry that the family had discovered that their daughter did not fall from the story building as stated by the family of the husband but was stabbed with the knife by her husband on the neck and chest.

“Seeking for justice at the office of the Commissioner for Women Affairs, the uncle of the deceased, Mr Onuorah, noted that they discovered that their daughter did not fall as claimed by the husband, but was rather killed with a knife, stabbed on her neck and chest by Elijah.

While commenting on the incident, the commissioner disclosed that they called all the stakeholders in the community, women groups, human rights activists, and social media users to leverage their legal team and understanding with the state government so that the lady could get justice.

She further vowed that the state government would use all its apparatus to ensure that justice was served for the dead woman. She advised all the individuals in the state. She added that she would also pass the information to the state governor to ensure justice was served.
