No fewer than sixty students on the Presidential Amnesty Program Office’s scholarship had achieved first class standing in various competitive fields at various partnered universities between 2016 and 2023, the office announced on Thursday.
Dr. Charles Ariye, the PAP Head of Education, revealed this in a statement.
According to Ariye, among their specialities are computer science, petroleum engineering, petroleum/electronics engineering, accountancy, civil engineering, international relations, physics, and biochemistry.
His praise follows another scholarship recipient, Kemien Egbekun, who achieved a remarkable achievement at Michael and Cecilia Ibru University in Delta State, graduating with a first class Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.77 in law.
Oladapo Damilola and Toikumo Prosper, two additional PAP-sponsored students at the same school, both earned second-class upper-division grades in law.
On September 6, 2024, the group took part in the university’s sixth convocation event.
Ariye clarified that even though the various institutions are still awaiting the 2024 scorecard, Egbekun and her colleagues have contributed to the growing number of PAP scholarship recipients who have received similar excellent grades in a variety of courses at partnering institutions thanks to their academic accomplishments.
Dr. Dennis Otuaro, the Presidential Amnesty Program Administrator, has expressed his happiness with the excellent academic achievements of the kids the program sponsors.
According to a statement released on Wednesday and signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Igoniko Oduma, he remarked following the impressive academic achievements of the Arogbo-Ijaw native Egbekun and others.
The PAP scholarship recipients’ excellent academic performance, which has contributed to the program’s success stories in advancing human capital development in the Niger Delta, Otuaro noted, inspired his administration.
The PAP leader credited the accomplishments of the PAP scholarship recipients to President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering support.
He emphasised that it is in line with his Renewed Hope Agenda, which calls for regional development, stability, peace, and sustainability.
“We are elated by the fantastic academic performances of the Presidential Amnesty Programme scholarship scheme students. Achieving such impressive grades as first-class and second-class upper division is no mean academic feat.
“These achievements reinforce the fact that the PAP is on the right track implementing its mandate. We are delighted and encouraged by this fact, and are taking appropriate steps to deepen efforts at achieving more in educational and vocational initiatives.
“We must thank President Bola Tinubu for his strong support for the programme and the undying love he has for the people of the Niger Delta through his Renewed Hope Agenda. He is committed to sustainable peace, stability, and development in the region. He needs to be appreciated and encouraged also,” he stated.
