Road accident claims 15 lives in Kaduna

The Federal Road Safety Corps in Kaduna State has confirmed that an accident that happened along Saminaka Road in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State has claimed 15 persons.

According to the FRSC the incident happened on sundat at about 1 pm which involved J5 bus carrying 63 children, mostly youngsters travelling to celebrate Eld El Maulud, the bus was reported to had collided with an articulated vehicle which was oncoming.

The Corps Commander Kabiru Nadabo, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kaduna State, confirmed the accident to the press in the state. He disclosed that the driver of the J5 bus lost control, which was majorly caused by overspeeding on his side. He disclosed that when the accident took place, fifteen children died instantly, while 48 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

He noted that it was important always to recognise the safety measures placed on the roads. He continued by noting that the accident should serve as a reminder to the users of the road of the dangers attached to reckless driving. He noted that the only ways to prevent such incidents were to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits to avoid.

An eyewitness who spoke on the incident noted that the place was disputing as he noted that the scene was chaotic. He noted that the bus had lost control of its speed when it rammed into the articulated vehicle/

He noted that the sight was horrific, and he further extended his condolence to the families of the victims.

The injured persons from the incident were taken to the Comprehensive Hospital in Saminaka for adequate treatment, while the other persons who had died were taken to the Dabo Lere Memorial Hospital, where they have been kept in the mortuary.

The FRSC disclosed that an investigation into the incident will be launched.
