NAFDAC raid Maiduguri drugs market confiscate drugs contaminated by flood incident

A joint team of officials from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control and the Borno State Ministry of Health, in a recent operation, has disclosed that it has uncovered warehouses in Maiduguri that have been neglected around the Gamboru area of the state capital.

It was disclosed that the warehouses were found in an unsafe areas in the state capital. According to the report they were used to store some unsafe drugs that were destroyed by the recent flood which happened in the sate. The raida was carried out on Wednesday by a team which was led by the Borno State Commissioner of Health, Baba Malam Gana, and NAFDAC’s Director for the North-East, Kenneth Azikiwe.

It was disclosed that the drugs were seized from the warehouse to ensure that they were not sold to the residents of the state.

It was disclosed that the raid of the area was after the NAFDAC’s Director General gave a directive, Prof. Christiana Mojisola Adeyeye, in order to prevent any form of health emergency in the state after the recent flood incident which happened and destroyed the several properties in the state.

While speaking with the press after the raid, Azikiwe explained that the mission of the combined raid was carried out in order to confiscate and destroy all the contaminated drugs that had been affected by the food. He noted that such drugs were no longer safe for the consumption of the people.

He noted that the joint operation was only carried out to ensure that all the comprised drugs were no longer safe for the consumption of society. He noted that if taken, the drugs could cause a major issue for the people if consumed. He charges the public to report any individual in the state who is seen trying to sundry any medication.

While speaking on the operation, the Borno State Commissioner of Health, Baba Malam Gana, noted that it was important for the government to ensure that all the drugs that were contaminated in the state were flushed out of the state. It was noted that the state government will further ensure that the Gamboru medicine market is safe for the citizens.

He further noted that all the medicines in the state must be stored safely, and the state government has taken steps to ensure that all the drugs in the state are in the safest condition. He noted that immediate action has been taken by the state government has taken an action against the contaminated drugs.

The state government noted that the individuals whose drugs have been confiscated by the government would be assisted by the government. He noted that the state government, in conjunction with the federal government, would provide assistance to the people.

In his recent visit, the commissioner further noted that President Bola Tinubu declared that the government would compensate the victims of the various incidents in the state to mitigate the effect of the disaster. He noted that the business people in the market would not be left out of the assistance.

While responding to the Chairman of the Gamboru Medicine Market, Bukar Modu, noted that the government will try by all means to ensure compliance with the directives of the government to ensure that the public is safe.

He called on the government to assist the people with relevant aids to ensure while expressing willingness that that the health of the people was a priority for the marketers.
