As voters cast their ballots in the state’s local government election on Saturday, Ahmed Aliyu, the governor of Sokoto State, gave them his word that he would be willing to provide local governments more autonomy.

The governor talked with reporters just after casting his ballot on Saturday in the Magajin Rafin Primary School polling place, which is located in the Tundun Wada local government area of the Sokoto South Local Government Area.

The State Independent Electoral Commission’s procedures, according to the governor, assure a seamless election process.

He asked candidates to accept the results of the election in good faith and pledged his readiness to collaborate with each and every one of the winning candidates to improve the lives of voters.

Senator Aliyu Wamakko, the state leader of the All Progressive Congress and a former governor of the state, said in a statement following voting in the Gidan Kara polling unit in Wamakko Local Government Area that the high voter turnout during the election demonstrated the public’s support for the APC government.

He urged the people who would win to see it as an opportunity to give back and make sure that everything they did was transparent.

Isa Acida, the state chairman of the All Progressives Party, said after casting his vote at his voting place in Acida town and expressed his happiness with the state electoral committee.

He continued by expressing his happiness with the public’s turnout and the amount of people who voted for the local government.

He reiterated his belief that the party’s candidates will prevail in the polls, citing the state governor’s actions as the reason for this.

In the meantime, Suleiman Aliyu, the state chairman of the state independent electoral commission, gave his word that the body will guarantee complete openness in the polls.

He stated that the commission chose to use manual voting and added that it had received a lot of complaints in the wake of the nation’s most recent general election. According to him, there are fifteen or more political parties running in the state and municipal elections.
