DIG Frank Mba has ejected Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki from the premises of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Benin.
At some point after two in the morning on Sunday, Obaseki was at the Edo INEC office; he remained there until the cops led him outside.
As PUNCH Online previously reported, on Sunday at around 3.30 am, demonstrators demanding Obaseki’s departure from the grounds of the Independent National Electoral Commission were led by members of the All Progressives Congress, including Monday Okpebholo’s running mate, Dennis Idahosa.
“Leave, leave!” was yelled at the governor by mobile police officers stationed at the INEC office as he was being led from the building.
A few minutes after Mba escorted Obaseki outside with a group of police officers, Surajudeen Basiru, the national secretary of the All Progressives Congress, told reporters that the governor had no business being there.
He is not a candidate, according to Basiru. Claiming that the governor had abused his position, he said, “He has no business being here.”
Under the cover of darkness, the governor reportedly entered the INEC building on Aduwawa Road in Benin City and went directly upstairs, sitting close to the Edo REC’s office, where the results were being tallied before being made public.
The demonstrators attempted to enter the INEC building on several occasions, but they were turned away despite their persistent knocks on the gate.
During the scene, Frank Mba, the DIG in charge of the election, entered the building with his team and went straight to Obaseki’s seat.
