After a long run, former Liverpool defender Joel Matip has retired from Football.

The Cameroonian announced his retirement from professional football on 12th October 2024 after self decision.

The football world also stand in line to bid farewell to a gem who made most of his career legacy in Liverpool, pulling a rare career to himself.

Even though Matip was born and raised in Germany, he represented Cameroon at international level where he played for them at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cups ranging from 2010 to 2014 span, before announcing his international retirement in 2015 as disclosed by Wikipedia.

Bidding from his greatness, Matip joined Liverpool from Schalke as a free agent. He would go on to find his place in the iconic club with his consistent dominant performance, which foresaw him spend sixteen years of incredible display in the club, covering over 258 appearances.

As of his dominance in his club career, he clinched one Premier League trophy, one Champions League trophy, one FA Cup, one DFB Pokal, one German Super Cup, Two league cups, one Super Cup and one Community Shield.

After securing one of the most decorated cabinets at Liverpool, he departed in the summer after his eight-year spell including 201 appearances and multiple significant honours with the club wrapped in 2024.

At 33, Joel Matip called his football career a wrap, attracting football enthusiasts, celebrating his incredible run.
