Former President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed his source of livelihood after eight years of serving as a civilian president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Daura-born military general disclosed that he feeds from the rental payment of one of his two houses in Kaduna.

According to the former president, he maintained transparency and accountability while occupying the highest public office in the country, therefore, there is no trace of illicit wealth on him, as he refrained from enriching himself unjustly.

Buhari revealed this during a caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the Presidential Banquet Hall of Katsina State’s Government House on 25th January.

In his remarks which he rendered in Hausa, Buhari claimed that he owns only a total of three houses: one in his hometown of Daura in Katsina State, and two in Kaduna State. He stated that one of the Kaduna properties has been rented out, and the income is what supports his feeding and other day-to-day living expenses.

The former president also emphasized on the complexity inherent in governing Nigeria or serving in other administrative offices of the country, which he says most Nigerians are oblivious.

“After my eight years as a civil president, I have only three houses; one in Daura and two in Kaduna. I have given one out for renting where I get money for feeding,” he stated.

Buhari noted that many Nigerians do not fully grasp the complexities of leading a diverse country like Nigeria and often place blame on leaders during or after their tenure.

“Nigeria is a difficult country to govern, but most Nigerians are unaware. You will not understand the complexities of leadership and the country itself until you find yourself in the administrative position of the country,” he said.

“I look much better and healthier now than when I was the president of the country. he added.
