A two-story building tragically collapsed at Ikota, Lekki area of Lagos State, killing one and leaving many trapped beneath the rubbles while about four have been rescued.

Rescue teams, including personnel from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), are actively on the ground working to save those trapped at the scene.

At the time of reporting, only one fatality was recorded, while four other victims were successfully rescued. Concerted efforts from various agencies and individuals are highly in place to ensure the evacuation of the remaining persons trapped in the rubble.

The four rescued victims, with various degrees of injuries, were immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention. At press time, the cause of the collapse was yet to be ascertained.

An eyewitness reported that the incident took place on Tuesday around 4 PM. Upon receiving a distress call, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, the State Commandant of the NSCDC for Lagos State, promptly ordered the deployment of a team for disaster management, rescue, and recovery operations to the scene.

The team, led by the Eti-Osa Divisional Officer, Chief Superintendent of Corps David Oyende, synergised with other emergency first responders’ teams to commence search, rescue, recovery and evacuation operations.

“The Command’s personnel at the scene have confirmed the successful rescue of four persons alive.

“Rescue operation is still ongoing,” Keshinro confirmed.
