Six people have been detained in Abuja for “one chance” robberies.

Federal Capital Territory Command agents have arrested  no less than six “one chance” operators. Abubakar Adams, Ismail Salisu, Ibrahim Kasa, Nasiru Saidi, Yusuf Bello, and Sani Usman are the culprits.

The FCT command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, in a statement on Saturday, stated that the suspects victims are  people who get into their cars as passengers, motorbikes, and tricycles and then they rob and shove them out.

“The operatives of the police command attached to Utako divisional headquarters, on June 16, 2024, acting on credible intelligence, trailed and arrested six armed robbery suspects: Abubakar Adams, Ismail Salisu, Yusuf Bello, Nasiru Saidi, Sani Usman and Ibrahim Kasa who specialise in attacking unsuspecting residents who board their vehicle or tricycle, robbing them of their valuables and pushing them off the moving vehicle or tricycle,” a part of the  statement read.

Adeh revealed  that victims complaints led to their arrest. She mentioned that among other things which were found on the culprits are cutlasses and knives.

“The suspects were apprehended on the heels of complaints received from multiple victims of these atrocious acts, some of whom reported losing their mobile phones, money, gadgets, and other belongings to these criminal individuals who have since confessed to the crime.

“Light weapons such as cutlasses, knives, and a phone believed to have been stolen from a victim were recovered from them”

Adeh said that although the investigation was still ongoing, CP Benneth Igweh, the commissioner of police for the Federal Capital Territory, commended the command’s dedication to guaranteeing everyone’s safety and security.

“He also urged the populace to be vigilant and take advantage of the police emergency lines in reporting suspicious activities through,” the statement read.

In a similar incident that occurred in May 2024, Federal Capital Territory Police Command agents arrested an automobile theft gang that had specialty in taking automobiles from Abuja and reselling them in Lagos.

As the suspects were being paraded, FCT Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh revealed that the gang ran out of luck when a friend of one of their victims, whose car had been stolen in Abuja, traveled to Lagos for an appointment and found his friend’s stolen vehicle at an automobile stand, up for sale.

Igweh said that, the friend then told the victim to travel to Lagos so that he could inspect the vehicle. On his arrival  in Lagos, he confirmed that the vehicle was really his stolen Toyota Camry and notified the  Police.

According to the CP, when police detectives arrived at the location, they found that the stolen car’s original particulars had been tempered with. The vehicle was then found and the perpetrators were taken custody.
