Chelsea’s new head coach, Enzo Maresca, has expressed fears of the team not being suitable from the back, which will cause the conceding of more goals in time to come.

After his first game in charge of the most successful London club, the Italian narrated that a team ready to play from the back will always have a cause to concede goals.

In Chelsea’s first preseason game for 2024, held in California, USA, the coach explained that the players’ performance was relatively okay, but more patience was needed for the young players to adapt to the new tactical instructions.

‘The result is always important but in this moment, the most important thing is to judge the performance, especially after two weeks since we started” he said.

He further blamed the players for conceding in the second half of the game “I was very happy in the first half and also in the second half. It is a shame that we conceded the two goals but overall, when you think about players like Wes who played 45 minutes after a year out and different situations, [I am pleased]”

“The result for us is always important but in this moment, we have to judge different things so I am very happy with the performance.’

Speaking on the return players they explained that the return of Romeo Lavia and Fofana will add depth to the team “I am especially happy for them because for one year without any minutes, it is difficult for them mentally so they need to now boost their energy and 45 minutes will help both of them”

“Hopefully we can soon have them both 100 per cent fit and they can start to play 90 minutes.” the coach said.

Christopher Nkunku, who spent a larger amount last season, gave the Chelsea team the lead early on in the game, which gave the Blues an upper hand going into the break after the first 45 minutes.

When the game returned, Luke Bolton and Jack Marriott gave Wrexham the equalizer and the lead, respectively, in the second half.

An 80th-minute goal by Lesley Ugochukwu gave Chelsea the equalizer. The game ended in a 2-2 draw, a game that the fans have described as embracing.
