The government of Kebbi State has appealed to the Federal Government to send urgent aid to help families and communities affected by the flood that took over some communities in the state.

In a press conference organised by the state on Friday in Birnin Kebbi, the State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed-BK, they were noted that the flood has affected several communities and had caused havoc on the people and their properties across different local governments in the state.

The commissioner noted that the flood incident had led to the death of several persons in the state while over 858,311 farmlands, was submerged by the water. The commissioner also noted that over 329,092 households were sent to the streets with most of them taking refuge in highlands.

He noted that in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi Local Government, two persons were reported dead by the communities, while in Ngaski Local Government, seven persons were reported dead; it was also reported that in Maiyama Local Government, eight persons were reported to have lost their lives. Another five people were reported dead in Kalgo local government area of the state. Jega Local Government Area reported the death of seven persons.

He explained that the incident has caused a high level of havoc in the communities, which has created a high burden for the residents and the government. He went further to explained that with the high impact the government could not handle the situation alone which has necessitated the state government to ask for help from the federal government to bring relief to the people while they stay in safer places.

The state government also noted that the government had compiled a comprehensive list of the affected area in the state and sent it to Abuja for consideration. The commissioner thanked the federal government for the earlier pledges that were made to assist all individuals in the country that are affected by the flood incidents.
