Wireless networks have become integral to human existence, especially in the United States, where most facilities are technologically driven. Several people earn a living by doing jobs that rely on wireless networks such as Verizon. Without this, life may become terrifying, as Verizon customers across the US are currently experiencing without a clear understanding of the problem.
Now, Is Verizon Down?
From what we know, the answer to that question, which thousands of Americans have repeatedly asked, would be yes. However, this may just be temporary.
Verizon customers across the US began to churn out complaints over inability to access the mobile operator’s wireless service at about 9 a.m. ET. This has continued for the last few hours with outages reported from New York to Los Angeles and many Americans are lamenting its impact on their daily activities.
This is especially terrifying for commercial transport operators, amongst others as their services rely heavily on wireless network to function, sources have said.
According to reports, over 100,000 reports were already flying over the internet barely just an hour after the issue was first noticed. This is according to DownDetector, a site that tracks service outages for telecommunications providers, websites and other businesses.
Verizon’s social media page was also being mentioned severally on X (formerly known as Twitter) as frustrated customers continuously directed their questions and frustrations at them while asking for refunds.
“It’s been over two hours and we don’t even know why this is happening. We all pay a pretty penny for our Verizon bill, this time should be compensated until the issue is fully resolved,” one customer posted to Verizon’s customer support account on X.
Some social media users, bitterly complained about the inability to even access their devices as the outage made it impossible for them to even receive OTP codes that could grant them access to their devices.
It was also gathered that customer’s mobile devices have since the beginning of the outage, been limited to just SOS mode.
What Is SOS Mode?
According to Apple, SOS mode refers to the state in which a mobile phone automatically switches to when it lacks wireless connectivity. This allows the mobile phone to still make emergency calls, such as 911, by connecting to other carriers.
However, this has not helped the situation in anyway as subscribers require more to access their devices and make adequate use of it.
Another Verizon user in Ohio, quoted on DownDetector similarly complained saying, “SOS in Ohio since mid-morning. Was working on my drive into work but went down several hours ago and hasn’t come back.”
What Is Verizon Saying?
The mobile network’s company has acknowledged the outage while assuring that its men are working to resolve the issue.
According to reports, the company’s rep emailed a statement to some media outlets stating that it was aware of the issue.
“We are aware of an issue impacting service for some customers,” a spokesperson said. “Our engineers are engaged, and we are working quickly to identify and solve the issue,” the message reportedly read.
According to Wikipedia, Verizon Communications Inc., is an American telecommunications company headquartered in New York City. It is the world’s second-largest telecommunications company by revenue and its mobile network is the largest wireless carrier in the United States, with 114.8 million subscribers as of March 31, 2024.
