Former NBA coach Sam Mitchell issued a stern warning to his co-host Chris Miles on Friday during a broadcast that preceded the faceoff between the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings.
In what seemed like a moment of confusion during an initially positive conversation, Mitchell threatened to reveal Mile’s home address on national TV while reacting to what also seemed like a subtle jab at him.
Mitchell and his counterpart Miles were working the “NBA Gametime Live” broadcast of the Warriors-Kings game held the same night. During their conversation, the duo spoke about Golden State star Stephen Curry, who was recently honoured by his team for winning a gold medal in Paris when Mitchell expressed his concern about why coaches don’t receive gold medals in the Olympics.
Responding, Miles stated that he was surprised coaches got a paycheck for the show, adding that Mitchell should do the show a pro bono.
On the other hand, Mitchell did not take the statement lightly and responded in what many have considered a wild manner, suggesting that that might cost him his job.
The Award-winning NBA coach became agitated and responded with a stern warning to his counterpart, threatening to reveal his home address on national TV.
Mitchell’s reaction has been greeted with mixed emotions across various quarters. While some on his side fault Miles for provoking him by not watching his words, many have considered Mitchell’s reaction unlikely and grossly unprofessional, especially for one who has been in the system for at least 13 years.
Apparently, the unexpected provocation turned the show a little bizarre. The NBA coach continued to flare up while his counterpart, who eventually noticed the path it was taking, tried to salvage the situation.
At a point, Miles stated that there was a snitch on the show, but Mitchell countered the claim, saying there were “Truth tellers” while throwing abusive words at his co-host.
Mitchell was quoted thus: “So hey, I’m taking donations. Why don’t you come up off some of that money you got since you over there bragging about it?
“I mean, oh, I’m sorry. Did you rent your beach house out down in Florida during the hurricane? Or do I need to go on, how about your townhouse over at Buckhead?”
Issuing a threat, he said: “You know, I know I know what you’re having, where you live young fella.”
While the argument continued momentarily, Mitchell reminded Miles, “I done told you, young fella. You got to stop messing with me on national TV. I done told you about that. Hey, do I need to give out the address? Cause you’re not at home right now.”
The match between the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings, however, ended 109-106 in favour of the Warriors. Moses Moody’s 23 points and Jonathan Kuminga’s 19 points set the pace for the team, moving them up to 3-0 in the preseason.
The State Warriors are scheduled for their next match against the Detroit Pistons at home on Sunday.
