A recent Israeli strike in northern Gaza has killed scores of people over the weekend, in a recent revelation by local officials. The attacks and bloodshed in the country have continued to reduce the hope that the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar might start a new life in cease-fire talks that have been stalled for months.
It was noted that a drone strike launched Saturday toward Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence in the town of Caesarea, north of Tel Aviv, has also indicated that the hostilities between the countries have continued to degenerate as it has been suggested that Israel plans an attack on Iran in response to strikes launched over the assassinations of top Hamas and Hezbollah leaders.
A meeting was scheduled by the Israeli security Cabinet on Sunday afternoon, which will be a platform for plans for a strike on Iran, one of the officials of the Israeli security forces has disclosed.
A recent accusation from Israel has shown that they have blamed Iran for the attack, which happened over the weekend. Still, the mission to the United Nations denied involvement, explaining that the attack, which the Israeli government claims, was carried out by Hezbollah in Lebanon, but a response from Hezbollah is awaited as they have failed to claim responsibility for the failed attack.
In a suggestion offered by the Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister Abbas Araghchi, he noted that Iran was not seeking to go to war with any country. The minister noted that the country has known that America is an ally of the Zionists, while he referred to Israel. He noted that if a war starts in the country America will be dragged into it which is not part of the plans of the government.
A details from the authority showed that in northern Gaza, where Israel had sent additional troops Friday after it renewed widespread operations this month, the local Health Ministry said Sunday that at least 87 people were killed in overnight Israeli strikes on residential buildings in Beit Lahia. It was also noted that 40 other persons had been killed in the region by the Israeli government. It was noted that the figures could potentially rise from the incident as more persons were still trapped in the rubble, as the number of missing persons has grown.
The IDF has stated that the figures released to be 73 were exaggerated by the government; the claim was made on Saturday by the media office, explaining that the figures were far apart from the figures that were released to the office after the attack that struck its target. It was explained that the area in question was “an active war zone” and did not provide an alternative estimate for the strikes’ death toll.
The IDF failed to confirm the number of figures to NBC News about the death tool it was speaking about the IDF said it would not offer further comment. It did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the updated death toll provided by Gaza’s Health Ministry.
The IDF on Sunday, through a statement, noted that its air force had struck about 175 targets across Gaza and Lebanon over the past day alone.
Some visuals which have emerged from northern Gaza showed devastating scenes. The press distributed the visuals from the scene when people were being rushed to the hospital by emergency responders after a strike took over the Jabalia refugee camp, about 1.5 miles from Beit Lahia. Children were among the injured. The pictures showed that some persons from the attack appeared shell-shocked, lying wide-eyed and still on blood-streaked hospital beds attached to IV drips and wrapped in bandages.
Speaking about the incident, Mahmoud Basal, the spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defense agency, noted that at least the lives of five persons were claimed in the attack; it was explained that the life of a baby was also claimed in the attack. It was noted that the baby was three months old. A discovery by the NBC News crew showed that what looked to be a small form of an infant wrapped in a white shroud was seen on the cement floor.
He noted that the Israeli forces have been targeting homes in a very intense way as the area has come under intense bombing.
In a publication made on X on sturdy by the IDF Arabic language spokesperson Avichay Adraee, it was noted that the forces had arrested several people he said were militants in the Jabalia area. In the video he shared online, dozens of men could be seen lined up near an Israeli tank. The IDF did not immediately respond to a request for further information.
Warming from the Palestinian Health Ministry during the weekend noted that the IDF had taken over and targeted at least three hospitals in northern Gaza, threatening to put the desperately needed facilities out of service. The IDF also noted that it had started an operation near a facility called the Indonesian hospital on Saturday but said “no intentional fire” had been directed at the site.
Anna Halford, emergency coordinator in Gaza for Médecins Sans Frontières, or Doctors Without Borders, noted that While the northern part of the Strip has been under siege for over two weeks, it is crucial to ensure the protection of the few remaining functional healthcare facilities, it was further noted that people must be able to continue to access medical care and lifesaving treatments. The aid organization called on the Israeli forces to immediately stop their attacks on hospitals in North Gaza.
Data from the UN has shown that 20,000 people fled Jabalia to U.N. refugee shelters in recent days, with basic needs like food and water perilously scarce. There were critical shortages of fuel and medical supplies, and internet disruptions were widespread. Aid deliveries had slowed to a trickle.
The recent attacks by the Israeli government have gone against the statement by President Joe Biden, who had noted that the killing of Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader accused of orchestrating Oct. 7, 2023, was going to open a new way to a conversation on the seize fire in the country which has been in war for over a year.
Gershon Baskin noted in a phone conversation that there was an opportunity to stop the war, but it depends on what is done with the opportunity. He went on to question the efforts made by Washington over a cease-fire, noting that nothing has been done to put pressure on Israel to stop the fight.
Israeli operations continued into Sunday, with the IDF saying troops remained active across the northern, southern and central areas of Gaza. It said troops had killed dozens of militants in close-quarter encounters on the ground and in airstrikes.
Hamas Political Bureau member Izzat Al-Rishq said Sunday in a publication made on Telegram that Hamas would not stop calling for escalated actions against Israel and its allies in the war as he accused Israel of carrying out a massacre in Beit Lahia.
Meanwhile, the IDF said troops continued to invade the south of Lebanon. It said forces had killed Hezbollah members, some of them in close-quarters combat, and had dismantled Hezbollah infrastructure and confiscated weapons in the area.
