Another attack by several suspected cultists claimed the lives of two persons in Odiokwu junction in Ula-Ehuda, Igbu Akoh-Kingdon, in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State. It was reported that the attack took place on Monday in the community.
The recent attack, which has claimed two lives, has now taken place barely 24 hours after five persons were killed in Edeoha Community in Upata kingdom, also in Ahoada East LGA.
Speaking on the attack the public Relations Officer of Igbu-Akoh kingdom, Hector Chinem, noted that the residents of the community on Sunday saw some persons in the community who were dressed in coverall and military gear a situation which caused panic among members of the community.
He further noted that the members of the community who were surprised by the presence of the individuals went to bed with fear but woke up in the morning to discover the bodies of two persons who were shot in the community.
He called on the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mohammed Mustapha, to urgently add strength to the security of the affected areas as cult members in the communities have continued to invade the communities to cause different kinds of problems.
He narrated on Monday that early this morning, the community members woke up only to see two able-bodied youths gunned down he noted that the members of the community don’t even know the affected persons. He noted as he spoke to you that it has been about 24 hours since five persons were killed in the Edeoha Community in the Upata kingdom.
The PPRO also advised the youths in the community to put down their arms as there was no fighting in the community. He also called on the commissioners of Police who were posted recently to the state to attack the incident head-on to ensure non-reoccurrence
The spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, was not available to comment on the incident. Efforts to reach her phone line were abortive, and she had not sent text messages in response to the text sent to her phone.
It was gathered that the families of the deceased had taken the corpses for burial, even as there was heightened tension in the area as some natives had started fleeing.
