Unknown gunmen have reportedly abducted the Chairman of Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC, Prof. George Chima, at his Okigwe residence in Imo State.

A source who pleaded anonymity told journalists that the gunmen suspected to be kidnappers stormed the  ABSIEC chairman’s residence while he hosted some lecturers from Abia State University, Uturu and whisked him away.

The source also revealed that the gunmen attempted to take him away using his car, however, their efforts did not materialize as the car was being washed when they arrived and eventually refused to start. They resorted to seizing an on-passing vehicle and fled with the chairman.

At press time, there was no official statement from the police to that effect, however, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Command, Maureen Chinaka said the police have been contacted and they have swung into action.
