Father to Super Eagles defender, Calvin Bassey has come out to plead with Nigerians to help him reconnect with his son and family.
In a video that has gone viral, the man identified as Kingsley Ikenna admitted to have been suffering for several years. He counted on his mistakes while revealing that he was only human, pleading with Calvin’s mother to forgive him. He further announced his only craving, which is to reconnect with his children and wife, revealing that it’s overly painful having to go by every day without his children.
Finalising his words, he pleaded with Nigerians to help him, beg his wife and children to accept him back, announcing that he is suffering privately.
His words:
“Please, I am begging Nigerians to help me. I am calling on everyone to come to my aid. Wherever I may have wronged my wife, I sincerely ask her to forgive me. I am human and not perfect.
All I want is access to my children. They are my flesh and blood, and not being able to see them has been very painful for me. I have been suffering quietly and carrying this pain alone.
I am appealing to my wife and my children to please find it in their hearts to forgive me. I am asking Nigerians to help plead on my behalf so I can reunite with my children. I am truly going through a lot in silence.”
Perhaps Bassey’s father didn’t quite own to his responsibility during the early days of his life. During Bassey’s upbringing, his father allegedly abandoned him and his sibling, leaving him just with his mother, who took charge and raised him in complete struggle. She would work multipld shifts to raise Bassey. The Fulham centreback would adopt his mother’s name and dive through a football phase that turned out well. Today, he is recognised as one of the best current defenders in the English Premier League.
