The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is offering a 50% discount to all drivers interested in converting their vehicles to CNG-powered vehicles using its newly launched MY-CNG App.
This is according to the agency’s Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Mr Khalil Halilu, who made the disclosure in a statement issued by NASENI’s Director of Information, Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, on his behalf.
According to the statement, Halilu, who spoke at a recent event held at NASENI’s CNG Engineering, Training and Conversion facility in Utako, Abuja, said the use of Pi-CNG was critical to Nigeria’s gas revolution bid, adding that the initiative had quickly become central to discussions on the nation’s energy future.
However, the event marked the official launch of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative’s Conversion Incentive Programme for the rideshare sector.
It also marked the introduction of NASENI’s MY-CNG App and was graced with the presence of Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperipe Ekpo, amongst other dignitaries who were in attendance.
In his speech, Halilu emphasised that relevant stakeholders should seek collaboration outside the project’s ambits. He commended the project’s existing partners, including Pi-CNG, Portland, and Dana Motors, for staying committed to the course.
The agency’s boss added that the consequence of their dedication and goodwill would serve as a response to the current economic challenges faced by many Nigerians.
He also assured that the initiative would be instrumental in the reduction of the high cost of living currently being experienced in the country while stating that CNG is a cleaner and more affordable vehicle fuel, with the potential to reduce transportation costs by up to 70 per cent and deliver 40 per cent savings for car owners, ensuring their financial security.
Recall that earlier in May, NASENI, in partnership with Portland and Dana Motors, reportedly commissioned an all-in-one state-of-the-art facility for the conversion of fossil fuel vehicles to CNG.
According to reports, the Conversion Incentive Programme is aimed at the rideshare sector, including Uber and Bolt drivers who have now been offered a 50 per cent if they sign up and use the newly launched MY-CNG App.
“The launch of the MY-CNG App and the Conversion Incentive Programme reflect NASENI’s commitment to leveraging technology to drive national transformation,” NASENI boss Halilu explained, instilling a sense of hope in the audience.
