American singer, Mariah Carey has announced the deaths of her mother and sister who sadly, lost their lives on the same day.
Announcing the unfortunate demise of two of her beloved ones, the singer expressed how heartbroken she was by the tragic incident even though she did not disclose the cause of their deaths.
The Pop singer in a statement made public on Monday, said, “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
Although Mariah Carey reportedly never had the best kind of relationship with neither her mother, Patricia Carley nor her sister, Alison Carley, the singer expressed excitement as she was able to spend some time with her mother before she died at the age of 87.
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” her statement added.
The 55-year-old Grammy award-winning singer further expressed appreciation to family, friends and loved ones for sharing in her grief and appealed for some private time through the period.
“I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” she noted.
Mariah Carey’s parents were divorced when she was just three-years old. This led to what she described in her 2020 memoir “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” as a complicated relationship and a journey full of contradictions and competing realities with her mother who was a Juilliard-trained opera singer and a vocal coach.
Her father, Alfred Roy, reportedly died in 2002. And her sister, who last weekend, died on the same day with their mother at the age of 63, had been at loggerheads with her for the longest that can be remembered.
Alison Carey had in 2021, reportedly filed a lawsuit against Mariah claiming that the singer’s 2020 memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey” was used as a means to intentionally inflict emotional distress and “to humiliate and embarrass” her.
The singer, however, never filed a formal response to the claim.
Both Mariah and Alison also share a brother, Morgan Carey who not so much has been known about.
