Former NFL star, Shannon Sharpe has owned up to a recent Sexually explicit video shared on his Instagram live.
Sharpe, in the most recent edition of Nightcap, a podcast he co-hosts with Chad Johnson, also known as Ochocinco, admitted to being the one in the video. The American star expressed his embarrassment, stating that he was disappointed in himself for being careless that much.
A video alleged to be Sharpe having intimacy with an unknown woman had been making rounds on the internet after he mistakenly went live on his Instagram handle earlier Wednesday.
Although no faces were shown in the video, the woman could be heard moaning, suggesting a sexual moment with the former NFL star and at some point, calling his name, “Sharpe.”
The former player noted that he accidentally pushed the buttons to go live without being technologically sound. Over 6ooo people watched his live video, according to reports.
After the incident, Sharpe reportedly claimed that his Instagram handle had been hacked and that efforts were underway to take back control of the account.
“Beware my [account] Instagram was hacked this morning; my team and I are working vigorously to figure this out. -UNC,” he stated.
However, on Nightcap podcast, he retracted his statement, noting that he was the one in the video just being an “active man” with a woman whose identity he refused to disclose.
He said, “I threw my phone on the bed; I’ve never been on IG Live; I don’t know how it works,” adding that he had no idea about the incident until someone from his marketing team informed him that he was live.
“My heart sank. It dropped. Then, I called my agent, the agency, and ESPN. I just got to tell them the truth. My phone wasn’t hacked. It was me being a healthy, active male,” he said.
Reacting to a snippet of the podcast in which he spoke about his ordeal, some netizens appreciated the NFL legend’s sincerity for owning up to his actions.
An individual wrote, “He told the truth and took responsibility.”
Another X user said, “UNC took accountability, and life happens.”
Also giving him credits, another user wrote, “It ain’t that serious, UNC. Appreciate your integrity, but this ain’t a stain on your professionalism or reputation.”
