Celine Dion has expressed dissatisfaction with the recent use of her 1997 track, “My Heart Will Go On” at a Trump campaign rally in the US.
This was as the singer was last Friday, displayed on large screen performing the song to a crowd of Trump supporters in the US state of Montana.
According to Dion and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada, neither Donald Trump nor his campaign team had authorisation to use the song or play the video at the rally.
“Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use… And really, THAT song?” Sony Music Entertainment Canada wrote in a post on X.
This has sparked heated debates across social media platforms as users seek to understand the rationale for the US presidential candidate’s choice of the Titanic song and how it relates with an election campaign rally.
Celine Dion wrote and sang the song “My Heart Will Go On” for the disaster movie by James Cameron, “Titanic,” about the ocean liner’s sinking in 1997.
The evergreen song which became the official soundtrack to Cameron’s film was also released on Dion’s album “Let’s Talk About Love.”
It became one of the biggest songs of all time, selling 18 million copies and earning Dion an Oscar, a Golden Globe and several Grammy awards.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump has been pitched against Kamala Harris for the US presidential race after the latter replaced the incumbent president, Joe Biden who previously appeared to be on the losing side since after the first presidential debate between him and Donald Trump.
While Kamala Harris has announced Tim Walz, Minnesota’s governor, as her running mate, Trump picked Ohio’s senator JD Vance as his running mate.
Both teams will talk their way into the White House as they navigate through the US presidential elections for 2024. Supporters are also gearing up alike.
