The controversial social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan or VDM, was not detained as was previously reported; rather, he was just asked to appear for questioning by the police, according to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The social media influencer was freed after making a statement on an issue involving him, according to a statement made by SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, on Sunday night.
As previously reported on Sunday, the outspoken VDM was again taken into custody by the FCT Police Command on suspicion of defamation, after his attorney, Deji Adeyanju, of Abuja, raised the alarm.
“contrary to the news making the rounds about the alleged arrest of Martins Vincent Otse popularly known as Verydarkman or VDM by the police, the FCT police command wishes to clarify that Verydarkman was not arrested by the police but was only invited for questioning on the allegations of cyber stalking, cyber bullying and defamation of character.
“He has since been released after voluntarily giving his statement on the allegations,” part of the statement read.
