Victoria’s Secret, an American lingerie, clothing, and beauty brand, made a massive comeback to the runway for its fashion show on Tuesday night after being away for over five years. The brand last held its fashion show in 2019. The show, which was once very popular, was cancelled five years ago following slumping sales and constant criticism for its alleged lack of inclusivity and setting of unrealistic beauty standards.
The lingerie brand earlier this year hinted at its plans to stage its over-the-top runway spectacular again, with New York City being targeted to be the backdrop for the show’s triumphant return. The event currently hosts innumerable world-class celebrities drawn from music, entertainment, and culture. The brand has pledged to close all the inherent gaps that led to its criticism and subsequent taking of a break. They have promised to be more inclusive and even include a lineup of all-female performers, including Cher, Grammy winner Tyla and Blackpink’s Lisa.
The brand made a public statement on Tuesday stating that, “The 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will deliver precisely what our customers have been asking for—the glamour, runway, fashion, fun, wings, entertainment—all through a powerful, modern lens reflecting who we are today.”
