The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun of the Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of a 12-year-old boy in a juvenile home for allegedly stabbing two brothers.
The magistrate explained that the accused, who is below the age of an adult, is a juvenile and should be tried in juvenile court. He asked that the defendant be remanded in the Juvenile home on the day of the case mentioned.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, while briefing the court, stated that the defendant, who is a minor, had committed the said offence on August 10th at about 8 pm at the Omi Olori area in Ado Ekiti.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant had assaulted two siblings, named Toheeb Adeitan and Tajudeen Adeitan, by beating them to the extent of stabbing them on the hand and shoulder, respectively.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant went to damage a Vivo handset valued at N19,000, which belongs to ne Basiri Adeitan, according to the explanations the victim had conducted himself in a way that could lead to a breach peace in the state.
It was established that the offence committed is against Sections 186, 421 and 181(d) Laws of Ekiti State, 2021; the prosecutor also told the court to adjourn the case in order to give time for studying the incident properly and present the witnesses.
The defendant, through his counsel, Mr Gboyega Abiola, pleaded not guilty to the charges, noting that the court should his client bail with a promise that he will return to court as stated and he will not jump bail.
The case was adjourned till August 16 for mention.
