The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on Thursday disclosed that the state will start the payment of N70,000 minimum wage from next month.
The governor made the disclosure in a meeting with all principals and headteachers in public primary and secondary schools across the state at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre in Awka, the state capital.
The governor also noted that in a bid to reduce the hardship for residents and students’ parents, the government would begin the REE education policy next week, which will be available for all senior students in all public schools in the state. The governor ordered that all students in senior classes who have already paid their N5,000 fees for this term should be refunded while noting some of the achievements that the administration has accomplished in education in the state.
The governor noted that despite the little resources available to the state the government will continue to make efforts inorder to deliver on the promises made to the citizens and deliver in the mandated given to them.
Also, the Abia State Government has revealed that the state will commence the payment of the new national minnium wage in October.
It was revealed on Monday by the state Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, while speaking with newsmen after the week’s Executive Council meeting, which was presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
He noted that payment would be made across all the agencies in the state as a fulfilment of the governor’s promise to the workers of taking their welfare seriously.
The commissioner after the meeting also disclosed that the state government have reached a decision to commence the construction of 17 court halls across the 17 local government areas of the state, stating that this was geared towards ensuring that the process of administration of justice system was not be impeded in any way in the state. According to him the decision was reached in a bid to strengthen the administration of justice in the state.
According to him, the Ministry of Health has also planned to organise a free medical outreach at Ugwunnagbo.
