Army arrest 11 in Taraba and Yobe for various criminal offences

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of eight suspects for alleged supply of supplying arms and logistics to terrorists in Taraba and Yobe states.

The arrest was made known on Monday in a statement explaining that the arrest was made possible after the troops invaded the hideouts of the suspects in the Mararaba Donga and Manya villages in Donga and Takum LGAs of Taraba. The statement noted that the arrest was made in a collaborative operation with other security agencies in the state on 30th of August.

The army raid, which took on the hideout of the suspected criminals, took place after the security agencies conducted the coordinated raid. It was noted that the operation was conducted and resulted in the arrest of 5 persons.

It was disclosed that the group of security personnel recovered 3 AK-47 rifles, two fabricated rifles, two single-barrel guns, two Dane guns, one rifle butt, 61 rounds of 7.62 mm (special) ammunition, and eight live cartridges from the suspect criminals.

The Army also confirmed that the troops had recovered another two extra AK-47 rifle magazines, one pistol holster, one magazine holster, one pair of handcuffs, three daggers, one police helmet, one axe, one point of sale (POS) machine, and ten mobile phones which they have been using for their various operations.

In another operation in Yobe State, it was confirmed three Boko Haram logistic suppliers were arrested in the Jimbal village in Tarmuwa LGA of Yobe.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations have shown that the suspects have been involved in criminal activity for the past two years. Explaining their operations, they disclosed that they have been collaborating with vigilantes in the area to invade the checkpoints.

The army listed three vehicles, five motorcycles, a large quantity of motorcycle tyres, numerous spare parts, and a significant quantity of drugs as items recovered from the Yobe suspects.

Other items recovered include seized rolls of fabrics used by terrorists to sew uniforms and the sum of forty-eight thousand (N48,000.00) naira.

In Kaduna State, in another operation conducted by the troops four, four terrorists’ were arrested over an allegation of gun running and logistic supplying at Rijana village in Chikun LGA of the state.

In Kaduna, it was confirmed that 30 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition and 3 mobile phones from the suspects were recovered from the suspects. It was also disclosed that the troops had recovered one hundred thousand (N100,000) naira worth of recharge cards and the sum of one million, five hundred and thirty-two thousand, nine hundred naira (N1,532,900.00) from the suspects.

In the southern part of the country, the army confirmed that a notorious kidnapper who has been the chief terrorist in and around the Ubia community in Esan, southeast LGA of Edo state, was neutralized after the army disclosed the hideout of the criminals.

The statement further sends the commendation of the Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, to troops for their resilient efforts in ensuring the safety of their jurisdiction. He encouraged them to continue in the lite to ensure the safety of the country.
