Bulding collapse injure many in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State

A bulding collapse which occurred in Plateau state on Monday has injured not less than four person. The collapse happened in a residential building in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Speaking on the incident, some of the residentsedt noted that the collapses had happened after a heavy down pall in the state which starts on Sunday and lasted till the early hours of Monday.

A resident of the community, Dusu Judith, confirmed the incident and explained that the building had collapsed in the early hours of the morning while the residents were asleep. She disclosed that four persons were confirmed injured in the incident explaining that house was located around Government College, Riyom.

She noted that despite the collapse of the building while the residents were asleep, none of the occupants died from the disaster. It was instead confirmed that four were injured during the incident; she noted that most of the persons injured in the incident were children but have been taken to the hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

Another resident who spoke about the incident, Bot Rwang, explained that the incident was shocking. He disclosed that all the families who lived in the building had escaped death. He described the level of devastation in the structure, noting that the structure was destroyed beyond people escaping from the debris.

In a tragic incident which happened in the state in July 2024, twenty-two school children were confirmed dead, with at least 132 others injured after a school building collapsed in the Busa Buji community, Jos North Local Government Area of the state.

The recent collapse has been attributed to the poor rate of jobs done by contractors, while others blamed the incidents on the poor mix of bad workmanship, poor quality materials and corruption.

In the past weeks, the state government of the state had ordered the closure of Saint Academy in the state capital and demolished other buildings within the school premises.
