A total of 98 lawyers have been shortlisted by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee to be considered for the esteemed title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria. The All Progressive Congress, Monday Ubani, Kunle Edun, Dr. Rapulu Nduka, National Legal Advisor, Prof. Abdulkarim Kana (Life Bencher), former Nigeria Bar Association, and national authorities are among the names.
Terkaa Aondo, a well-known human rights attorney with an office in Abuja, Wendy Kuku, the legal adviser to the Independent National Electoral Commission, and Paul Daudu, the chairman of the NBA Bwari branch, have all been shortlisted.
The names were on a document that a correspondent from PUNCH in Abuja received on Tuesday, and it was signed by Hajo Bello, the Secretary of the LPPC, and the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court.
The letter stated that the selected names are not a sign of the lawyers’ success in the process, but rather are provided so that the general public may remark on the lawyers’ reputations, competency, and honesty.
“The general public is hereby invited to comment on the integrity, reputation, and competence of the listed Applicants.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the publication of the names of the shortlisted Applicants is not an indication of their success in the process,” the document read.
Eleven attorneys were selected for the academic category and a total of 87 attorneys for the advocate category.
According to the document, each complaint must be submitted with a twenty-copy confirming affidavit that the author of the complaint attested to in front of a Nigerian Superior Court of Record or a notary public.
