A cult clash has claimed a man suspected to be a member of the Ayé Confraternity, known as Mosquito, in Ijagun Road in the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The incident, according to the Ogun state police command, happened about 11 pm on Sunday in August, when the members of the cult group went into an argument that resulted in a fight.
In an interview, the spokesperson of the police command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, noting the clash led to the attackers cutting the hand of the deceased suspected cult member.
She noted the incident was first reported to the police division at Igbeba at about midnight on Sunday; the caller, according to her, had explained that cultists in the area were engaging in a fight.
She explained in the interview that the divisional police officer mobilised the patrol team to the scene of the incident, where they found the body of a man who could not be identified; she highlighted that the victim had several cuts and gunshots on his body when the officers observed closely.
Also, it was discovered that his left had been cut and taken away by the murderers. She stated further that an investigation by the police revealed that the unidentified individual, Mosquito, was a member of the Ayé Confraternity.
According to the police, they have taken steps to investigate the incident and arrest other members of the group who are currently at large in different locations in the state.
The murder of Mosquito has joined the other series of attacks by the violent groups in the state in the past months.
The most recent was the murder of a 48-year point-of-sale operation named Fatai Kehinde under the Kuto Bridge in the state capital. It was reported the murderers, who they say were assailants, had chased him from his shop in Kuto Market to the area under the bridge.
The police noted that the state command has put out modalities to bring to justice all individuals associated with cultism in the state, explaining that no individual will spread in the state.
