The Ogun State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has announced the arrest of two suspects who are believed to be vandals and impersonators.
Parding the suspects on Tuesday at the headquarters of the command, Kobape Road, Abeokuta on Tuesday, the Corps’ Commandant, David Ojelabi, explained that one Oluwatobi Salami, aged 30, was arrested by some good citizens at the Sagamu community around OGD International Market on Saturday, August 10, 2024, and was handed over to the NSCDC and series of interrogation.
He explained the suspect had been a specialist in impersonating an official of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and an officer of the Nigerian Army using it to commit a series of crimes in the state; the commandant noted that my. EFCC jackets and other dresses worn by the soldiers were some of the items found on him.
He explained that the suspect would be handed over to the appropriate authority, where the investigation would be conducted thoroughly.
Another suspect who was arrested was Idris Zakari, aged 20, who hails from Bagudu Local Government, Kebbi State. He was arrested on Friday, August 9, 2024, at the railway in Ifo Local Government Area of the state. He said he was caught vandalizing the railway tracks in the area.
The commandant explained that the suspect was arrested by diligent So-Safe Corps men who collaborated with the corps. He explained that he was handed over to the NSCDC, where further investigation will be carried out and punishment given.
He explained that any act that results in the vandalism of government property is an act to sabotage the government and will not be left unpunished. He noted that the individuals responsible will face the law to the fullest.
He emphasised the command’s readiness to collaborate with different security agencies in the state to eliminate all criminal activities in their jurisdiction.
The suspect Salami while narrating how he got the EFCC uniform noted that he had stolen the uniform from a hotel in the Lekki area of Lagos state while a printing company was contracted to print the logo of the Nigerian Army on his vest to depict that he is an officer of the army.
He noted that he regrets his actions, pleading further the suspect begged for mercy from the Nigerian government. He explained that this would serve as a warning to him.
