The protest that began on a peaceful note in Kaduna state turned violent as police fired tear gas and live ammunition at the protesters at the entrance to the government house.
According to an unofficial figure, the three protesters were killed by the police while several others were injured, including some police officers.
According to one of the protesters, they started their walk from the Rigasa area of the match towards the government house through Abakwa, ending peacefully without any weapons. The protest took a different turn when they demanded an entrance to the government, and the police tried to repel the act.
An anonymous protester who spoke to reporters explained that the large number threatened the police of protesters approaching the government and decided to disperse them. He explained that the police started by spraying hot water on the protesters with a vehicle from the government house.
He explained that a police vehicle from the government house ran into the protesters and killed three of them instantly while others ran for safety.
The protesters destroyed the office of the Kaduna State Traffic Agency ( KASTLEA) after the incident turned violent.
Public places in the state all remained closed as banks, schools, and vocational centres were closed down,
In Gombe state, the state governor has imposed a 24-hour curfew in Potiskum, Gashua and Nguru areas of the state after some hoodlums hijacked the process and began looting of government properties.
A statement released by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brig. Gen Dahiru Abdussallam (retd), explained that the curfew will be fully enforced. He noted that the security agencies have been directed to enforce and follow the directive.
The violent protest in the state resulted in the burning down of seven buses at the local government secretariat in Potiskum.
