Anyim Pius Anyim, the former president of the Senate, has joined the ruling All Progressive Congress after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party. At the APC Local Government election campaign’s Grand Finale on Saturday, he declared the defection at the state capital, Pa Oruta Ngele Township in Abakaliki.
Many prominent figures from other political parties, such as former members of the state and national assemblies, Edwin Nkwegu, a former Labour Party candidate for governor of the state, Senator Obinna Ọgba, and thousands of their supporters, joined the party under his leadership.
Stanley Meghan, the state chairman of the party, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Ebonyi State, Governor Francis Nwifuru of that state, Minister of Works David Umahi, and other party leaders were present to meet them. Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the APC, was also present.
The minister of works, who was speaking at the ceremony, complimented Anyim for his support of the APC during the 2023 elections and said it was only fitting that he formally join the party.
Umahi expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for all of his assistance during his legal fights following his party membership. “President Tinubu called me to come see him, and when I arrived, he personally drove me to meet a Senior Advocate of Nigeria who handled our case,” the man stated.
The minister expressed gratitude that the APC has emerged as the state’s and the South East’s most beautiful bride, despite the fact that he endured severe criticism and coercion for his decision to join the party.
Umahi observed that the President is highly interested in the growth of the Southeast and that success depends on public support. He also said that a portion of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road will cross through Ebonyi, and he mentioned that work is still being done on other important routes in the area.
In order for the region to occupy its proper role in national politics, he asked the two governors and other party leaders in the area to put in more effort to recruit all of the region’s stakeholders to the party. Uzodinma stated in his speech that the nation’s democracy will be strengthened by the recent Supreme Court decision.
The governor of Imo asked young people to avoid participating in any kind of demonstration against President Tinubu’s administration. Anyim, in his speech, gave assurances to the APC National Chairman and other leaders of the party that Ebonyi State has consistently remained unified under a single political family.
