Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have announced the arrest of a suspected kidnapper after a fierce gun battle.

It was learnt that a gang of kidnappers had invaded an estate in the Kubwa area of the FCT in the early hours of Friday; when the police arrived at the scene of the attack by the criminal element, they opened fire and fled into the nearby bushes.

It was gathered that the police, who were fearless, pursued the kidnappers into the bush, which led to the apprehension of one of the suspects; the police successfully recovered a vehicle which belonged to one of the gang members.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, confirmed that one of the kidnappers had been arrested, and weapons were recovered from him.

The police commissioner noted that one of the residents of the estate had called the police when the criminals had arrived, which led to the prompt response of the police.

He charged the residents of the FCT to always make prompt calls to the police when they encounter any difficulty or suspicious criminal activity in their environment.

He noted that, luckily, one was arrested, and others escaped. The police disclosed that they successfully recovered an AK-47 rifle with 20 live ammunition and a Beretta pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition in it from the criminals.

He further explained the importance of seeing something and immediately reporting it. He said the police were begging everybody not to just stand by and watch when an incident happens without taking action. If you notice any action, such as a robbery, call the control room immediately, and the police will help, he said.
