The Federal Government, on Friday, after months of signing the new national minimum wage, announced the inauguration of the Committee on Consequential Adjustments in Salaries for Civil Servants.
The inauguration was done by the office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack.
The committed according to the government has been constituted to imlemen the provisions of the National Minimum Wage Act of 2024, which increased the national minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.
It was learnt that the members of the committee consist of 16 members from the FG and Trade Unions, and it is chaired by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.
The duties of the committee, as disclosed, include negotiating and agreeing on consequential adjustments in salaries and developing a template for the implementation of the approved minimum wage.
The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, in her opening remarks at the inauguration on Friday, stated the the importance of the committee assignment, establishing that it was crucial to the maintenance of industrial peace and harmony in the country.
The Head of Civil Service, while speaking, further disclosed that the inauguration of the committee was a concrete step in implementing President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which is aimed at lifting Nigerians out of poverty and creating an enabling environment for them to prosper.
She noted that the members must recognise the importance of the assignment given to them by their country.
The integrated committee’s members include representatives from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, and Trade Unions.
