To facilitate the sale of Rice to Nigerians, the Federal government has asked civil servants in the country to apply for distribution through a specified portal.

In a letter released on Monday and signed by the Director of Human Resources, Jaiyesimi Abimbola, at the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, explained that all the staff of the Federal government interested in the accusation of the Rice must complete a Google form which is on the OHCSF.

The letter noted that Rice would be sold to all staff members interested in purchasing it at a subsidised rate of N40,000.

Speaking of the payment process, the letter noted that specific offices in the ministry will facilitate it and that the chairman of the Joint Union Council of the ministry will serve as the observer of the process and the distribution; he will have the right to be transparent in their dealings.

The letter explained that staff would be allowed to purchase just a bag of Rice during the process, while two staff members can combine to purchase a bag when one cannot be alone.

In response to the current protest in the country, the federal government announced plans to sell a bag of rice at a subsidised rate to all Nigerians in the country, which will ease the effect of the fuel subsidy removal being felt by the citizens.

The president has also announced plans by the government to engage and facilitate dry season farming in local communities to caution the effect.

Protesters have taken to the streets in different parts of the country, with some states protesting violently while others remain peaceful.

The statement reads, “As part of the Federal Government’s efforts to alleviate the current food crisis in the country and its effects on the general population, I am directed to inform you that 50kg bags of rice will be sold at a subsidised rate of N40,000 only per bag to interested public servants in Abuja.

“For effective implementation, all interested staff are required to complete a Google form on the OHCSF website, https://www.ohcsf.gov.ng, print, and submit same to the Director, HR, for endorsement.

“Payment for and distribution of the rice will be coordinated by designated officials while the chairman, Joint Union Council of the Ministry is required to serve as an observer during the period of the exercise for the purpose of transparency.

“I am to add that each staff is only entitled to purchase one bag. Two or more staff may also jointly pay for a bag for sharing among themselves.

“Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of staff in your respective Departments/Units for information and guidance.”
